A KREMLIN mouthpiece has accused Ukraine of shelling its own nuclear power plant and called on global leaders to put an end to the alleged assault.
“This cannot but cause our concern,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters. “We call on all countries of the world to use their influence so that the Ukrainian armed forces stop doing this.”
The power station, which is currently under Russian control, has been central to the conflict in Ukraine, with every attack fueling fears that a Chernobyl-style disaster could hit Europe in the coming months.
“Whoever is behind this, it must stop immediately. As I have said many times before, you’re playing with fire!” The UN’s nuclear watchdog chief, Rafael Grossi, warned.
